Tom Mitze
Interim Programming Director, Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts
Tom Mitze began his performing arts management career as the Special Projects Officer/Education Program Coordinator for the opening of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC 1971. Three years later Mitze was recruited to be the Assistant Managing Director of the Milwaukee Performing Arts Center. In 1976, Tom Mitze was appointed the Founding Executive Director of the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. While at La Mirada, Tom also taught a class at UCLA Extension, “Los Angeles Theater Known and Unknown,” focusing on 99 seat equity waiver theaters. After 16 years at La Mirada, Mitze was appointed the Founding Executive Director of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. After 18 years in Thousand Oaks, he retired from fulltime in 2012 to focus on his consulting practice, Mitze Productions. Tom Mitze has served as a consultant to cities, colleges, non-profit arts organizations and performing arts centers throughout the United States and Canada on the management, operation and programming of performing arts venues. As a consultant, Tom served as the Interim Executive Director of the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center for two years and currently serves as the Interim Programming Director of the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. Tom Mitze is a Past President of Theater L.A. (LA STAGE ALLIANCE), Western Arts Alliance and the International Society of Performing Arts Administrators Foundation.
