Executive Director, The Knights
Shruti Adhar serves as the Executive Director of The Knights, a Brooklyn-based orchestral collective that tours nationally and internationally. The Knights were recently nominated for a Grammy with violinist Gil Shaham and will be releasing their next album, featuring Yo-Yo Ma, on March 31. Prior to joining The Knights, she served as Director of Development at Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, where she has helped grow the orchestra’s contributed revenue, new music programming, and educational activity. Prior to Orpheus, she served as a Program Officer with the New York City’s Department of Cultural Affairs for four years, where she facilitated annual distribution of $30 million to over 800 organizations throughout the five boroughs, helped launch the City’s first online application system, and managed a portfolio of 125 diverse arts organizations, providing technical assistance and conducting site visits. Her philanthropic experience also included the position of Program Officer for the New York State Music Fund, established by then Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, which distributed $38 million to music programs across the state; she has also been the Managing Director of Buglisi/Foreman Dance (now Buglisi Dance Theatre), a New York City-based contemporary dance company. Ms. Adhar has a B.A. in History from Yale University and an M.A. in Arts Administration from Columbia University.
